Join the Prometheus team in 2023-24!

We need your help! Our events depend on the work of dozens of staff working behind the scenes; expanding that team allows us to expand our scope in everything we do.

Who are we looking for?

  • Most of the Prometheus team consists of college students and graduates who competed in science bowl in high school. High schoolers are welcome to apply, though they may be held to a higher bar.

  • The main qualities we’re looking for are experience and competence.

    • Moderators and writers will primarily be chosen based on experience; if you believe your experience doesn’t fully show your skill, let us know why in the application.

    • Higher-level positions will focus more on the content of the application and may be asked to complete an interview or work trial to prove their skill.

  • Staff will be compensated for their work, although payment should not be your main motivation for applying.

    • Exact payment details are TBD and will be determined by our source(s) of funding for next year. We expect to pay all staff at least $15/hour, with certain more experienced staff receiving up to $30/hour. Contact us if you’d like more details.

Roles

Moderator

Most of our staff are moderators, the people responsible for managing individual matches at tournaments. This role also includes division organizers, individuals who manage Zoom meetings at virtual tournaments and remain on standby to resolve issues in rooms.

Writer & Playtester

Our ~20 writers are the people responsible for making and editing the sets teams play at each competition. Playtesters check their work at the end of the writing process, catching any mistakes and nuanced issues that are hard to see while writing.

Logistics

Our logistical staff are responsible for coordinating each tournament, communicating with teams and local directors to keep everything running smoothly.

Outreach

Our outreach staff are responsible for finding teams who want to compete and keeping them engaged in our tournaments.
